Determining Driver Version and Understanding System Requirements

Question: How can I get Indeo® video?
Indeo video is included in Video for Windows*, Windows 95, and on multimedia titles that use Indeo technology. You can also download the latest drivers, as well as sample video files and supporting documentation, from this Indeo video Web site.


Question: How can I tell which Indeo® video drivers are installed?
In Windows 95 and Windows NT* 4.0:
  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Settings > Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on Multimedia.
  4. Select the Advanced tab.
  5. Double-click on Video Compression Codecs.
  6. Double-click on the Indeo video drivers you see listed.
  7. Click Settings…. An About box appears, containing the version number.

In Windows 3.x and Windows NT* 3.x:

  1. Open the Main group.
  2. Double-click on Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on Drivers.
  4. Double-click on the Indeo video drivers you see listed. An About dialog or Setup dialog opens. The About dialog shows the driver version.
  5. If the Setup dialog opens, click on its About button to see the driver version.

On the Macintosh*:

  1. Open the System folder.
  2. Open the Extensions folder.
  3. Select any files whose name includes Indeo video.
  4. Press Command­I to open the Get Info dialog box.


Question: What is the recommended system for playing video files compressed with Indeo® video Release 3.2?
The recommended system for Indeo video Release 3.2 is a Pentium® processor-based PC, 75 MHz or faster, running Windows 95 with Direct Draw* graphics support or Windows 3.x with DCI graphics support, 16 MB of RAM, and a VGA monitor capable of displaying at least 65,536 simultaneous colors (16­bit color mode).


Question: What is the minimum supported system for playing video files compressed with Indeo® video interactive?
The minimum supported system for Indeo video interactive is a Pentium® processor-based PC, 75 MHz or faster, running Windows 95 or Windows 3.x, 8 MB of RAM, and a VGA monitor capable of displaying at least 256 simultaneous colors (8­bit color mode). Faster microprocessors can improve image quality and allow you to play files back smoothly that have larger frame sizes.

The recommended system for Indeo video interactive is a Pentium® processor-based PC, 120 MHz or faster, running Windows 95 with DirectDraw graphics support, 16 MB of RAM, and a VGA monitor capable of displaying at least 65,536 simultaneous colors (16­bit color mode).


Question: I've been compressing clips with Indeo® video interactive, and my results are not as good as they were with Indeo video Release 3.2. Why?
Indeo video interactive requires a more powerful processor, such as a fast Pentium® processor, and more memory, especially when running under Windows 95.


Question: Is Indeo® video interactive still a cross-platform solution?
Yes. Indeo video interactive drivers are available for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 3.x. They will soon be available for Apple's QuickTime* 2.1 for Macintosh*.
